Ladies and gentleman, Marvel Studios has found their new Harriet Tubman! Oscar winning actress Anne Hathaway has signed on to portray the abolitionist icon in an upcoming biopic set for release around Academy Award season!
The sweetheart actress with the peaches and cream complexion returns to the studio that made her a star with the hit Princess Diary series of films to tackle the juicy role of Tubman in “Underground Railroad.” The role is a big coup for the starlet who lost out on major minority roles in Ridley Scott’s Exodus:Gods and Kings, The Lone Ranger and Ghost in the Shell.
“We think that Anne is the perfect performer to bring Tubman’s sweetness, humor and vulnerability to the big screen. When they see her helping slaves escape the south and gain their freedom they are going to think they are watching a documentary. Our screen tests have been just remarkable,” Alan Horn, chairman of Marvel/Disney Studios, told an audience at Comic Con.
There are rumors that Captain America star, Chris Evans, will make a cameo in the film as the star spangled Hydra superhero to bring the story into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe and to potentially use the Tubman character in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War as heroes battle their biggest foe yet, the intergalactic tyrant Thanos. Excelsior!
