President Trump said Friday he hasn't discussed the ongoing Russian Federation investigation with new acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker and complained that special counsel Robert Mueller hadn't undergone Senate confirmation - even though he doesn't need to.
Last month, Trump said on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" show that Whitaker "is a great guy" and said that he knew him but declined to talk about any conversations he had had with him about taking on the role.
When asked if Whitaker was chosen to rein in the Russian Federation probe, Mr. Trump said, "What a stupid question that is". The move allows Whitaker to oversee a USA probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election that has hung over Trump's presidency, and which Whitaker has criticized in the past. "I could say, 'That investigation is over".
Boone said the protestors want to see the Mueller probe protected, and its final conclusions released to the public.
A Republican party loyalist who was Sessions' chief of staff, Whitaker has also publicly questioned the probe.
He was accused of dismissing several USA attorneys in 2006 for politically partisan purposes.

While Whitaker is now Mueller's ultimate supervisor, it was not immediately clear whether that meant Rosenstein would step aside.
That belief is echoed by White House officials who also do not believe Whitaker needs to recuse himself, sources tell CNN.
