Demaryius Thomas has departed the Denver Broncos, traded to the Houston Texans ahead of the NFL's trade deadline.

Thomas, 30, has been to the Pro Bowl four times since entering the league in 2010, a career in which he's caught 665 passes for more than 9,000 yards and 60 touchdowns.

Thomas' departure from the Broncos opens the door for more playing time for second-round pick Courtland Sutton.

"He developed into an elite player over the years, establishing himself as one of the NFL's most productive, consistent and reliable wide receivers".

The Eagles announced they had acquired Golden Tate from the Detroit Lions, reportedly for a third-round pick, shortly after the Thomas news broke. He joined Torry Holt (six), Marvin Harrison (five) and Antonio Brown (five) as the only players in National Football League history with five consecutive seasons totaling at least 90 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards (2012-16).

Demaryius Thomas' departure from Denver has brought sorrow to his former teammates.

Thomas is owed $14 million in base salary next season. Luckily for Thomas, he won't have to start looking for a house in Houston until next week, since the Broncos are actually hosting the Texans this coming Sunday. He also missed the first three games of the 2017 season with a broken collarbone.

For Thomas, a nine-year run with the Broncos has come to an unceremonious close. So the gambling public is far less bullish on Denver than they were Sunday night. But by moving Thomas, at the very least you'll free up roster space for younger players, he said.
