Earlier this year, Oculus announced the Oculus Go, a $199 standalone headset meant to drive VR experiences to people without the need for wires or smartphones. The headset rounds out Oculus' VR lineup, joining the Oculus Go and Rift as the company's new middle-level offering. Quest provides 6 Degree of Freedom (DoF) movement and room scale tracking, compared to the 3-DoF system on the Go. The Oculus Quest will also be more capable than Oculus Go, a $199 headset that doesn't require a computer, but can only track the rotation of a user's head. Oculus calls this tech Insight, and it's testing it in hundreds of different home spaces so that it can detect as many floors and objects as possible. Games and software designed for Quest, and future Oculus headsets, will still work on the original Rift. It also comes with built-in audio like the Go, but there's no mention if it will also come with a 3.5mm jack like the Go if you want to use your own headphones.
We're at Oculus Connect 5 and we'll be getting some hands on time with the Quest so stay tuned for our first impressions on the new Oculus headset.

Oculus Quest (previously codenamed Santa Cruz) is similar to the Oculus Go launched previous year in that it's an entirely self-contained solution, with no need for an external device like a PC or phone. That's not to say it isn't fun - but from cable management to proper camera placement, there's a lot of fiddling to get right. "This is the all-in-one VR experience that we have been waiting for".
