U.S. News & World Report has released its 29th annual ranking of the nation's top hospitals, and the D.C. -area is not on it. University of Wisconsin Hospitals in Madison ranked No. 1 statewide. It was one of just 158 medical centers - less than 4 percent of the 4,500 analyzed - to be nationally ranked in even one of 12 specialties surveyed for the report.
Florida Hospital Orlando ranked fifth in the state.
In specialties, Baptist Health Louisville did not achieve any national rankings but was deemed "high performing" for seven procedures/conditions, including colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery and hip and knee replacement.
Aurora St. Luke's received top 50 honors for cardiology and heart surgery, geriatrics, and gynecology. Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville was first, and the University of Tennessee Medical Center ranked third.

The big mover on the state list was U of C Medical Center, which rose in IL from eighth.
U.S. News assessed only hospitals that met one of four different criteria. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care.
U.S. News has also changed its methodology over time, which affects how hospitals rank over time, said Ben Harder, who oversees the rankings for U.S. News. Four Advocate facilities ranked in the Top 10 both within IL and the Chicago metro area. U.S. News said the other top hospitals in North Carolina for treating complex medical conditions are: Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, Carolinas Medical Centerin Charlotte, Mission Hospital in Asheville, Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro and FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
All hospitals are evaluated but only the top 50 are ranked.
