The Texas Department of Public Safety said it was investigating the crash, which occurred at 11:18 a.m. local time outside of Big Wells, Texas. "We've seen this many, many times", Boy said. Boyd said agents were chasing the SUV when it lost control and overturned.
Sunday's crash comes amid widespread protests over President Donald Trump's immigration policies that include separating undocumented children from parents caught sneaking them into the country. People from both vehicles were arrested, according to the statement.
U.S. Border Patrol said in a statement that one of its agents noticed three vehicles traveling together on a rural highway and believed a "smuggling event" was taking place.
It was unclear why law enforcement began chasing the vehicle, though KABB quoted Dimmit County Sheriff Marion Boyd saying it was the result of "good police work".

Five immigrants are dead and several others were injured when a police chase ended in a crash Sunday in Big Wells southwest of San Antonio, according to KSAT News. During a press conference, Boy said 14 people were in the vehicle, including the driver and passenger. That agent stopped one vehicle and radioed a description of the other two vehicles to other agents, the agency said.
Boy believes the driver was scouting the area to try and pick up immigrants.
Most of these chases are related to drug or human smuggling, Boyd added. Twelve immigrants were ejected and four died at the scene when the auto crashed and rolled over, according to Boyd.
