Kilauea rumbled back to life on May 3 as it began extruding lava and sulphur dioxide emissions through a series of fissures, marking the latest phase of an eruption cycle that has continued almost non-stop for 35 years. How are scientists able to tell when a dormant volcano will rumble to life? His ankle dangled awkwardly, and blood spurted forth.
To date, at least 23 fissures have formed along a northeast-southwest line in the rift zone, most in the Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens neighbourhoods. "But you don't want to catch this football".

The harrowing incident did little to dampen his awe of the volcano and its powers - or his desire to remain there.
"It was incredible. It was an event of a lifetime". Clinton seemed in good spirits, wiggling his toes and joking about how there would be less traffic when he returned home. "It was all happening at one time".

The announcement came as a shock to fans, including a number of famous faces, who took to social media to vent their anger. Fox announced that it had canceled " Brooklyn Nine-Nine" last week and its fans quickly voiced their disapproval .
Lava from that vent was shooting further into the air and producing the highest lava wall of all the vents, which was blocking molten rock from flowing north toward the plant.
Lava reached the Pacific Ocean earlier this week and a new lava flow is expected to enter the ocean east of MacKenzie State Park on Thursday, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
Residents in the Leilani Estates community have seen their neighborhood transformed by the lava. It's been generating plumes of lava haze or "laze" as it interacts with seawater. Lava flowing from the volcano recently reached the ocean, causing a unsafe lava-haze phenomena known as ' laze' that sends acid- and glass-laced steam shooting into the air, creating yet another hazard for those downwind of the lava's ocean entry point.
The Hawaii County Civil Defense agency warned in its latest bulletin that residents downwind of Kilauea should take care to avoid exposure to ash, which can cause eye irritation and breathing difficulties, particularly in people with respiratory problems.
