Kono said he and Wang agreed to improve ties by their leaders paying mutual visits, starting with a visit next month to Japan by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang for a trilateral summit involving South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
"To establish a complete, irreversible and verifiable denuclearization of North Korea we agreed to continue to fully implement all relevant United Nations resolutions and to work closely together", Kono said. While Wang did not specifically refer to a leadership meeting, according to China's foreign ministry, he said his visit had established the conditions for the "next step" in high-level exchanges.
Kono said, "I hope to hold active discussions about regional and global economic issues".
However, Kono warned there would be "no true improvement of Japan-China relations without stability in the East China Sea".
