"Ethan continues to be remorseful as he has been from the first day of this tragic event", his attorney, Scott Brown, said just before Couch left the probation office.
Escorted by his attorney, Couch, 20, was released from jail Monday morning as dozens of media outlets - both local and national media - greeted him as he left the Tarrant County Community Supervision and Corrections Department.
As part of Couch's current probation, he will be required to wear an ankle monitor, an alcohol detecting patch, submit to drug testing, abide by a 9 p.m. curfew and have a video interlock ignition device installed in his vehicle, according to Mike Simonds of the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office.
He was three times over the legal limit for an adult when the crash happened, but in his trial, Ethan Couch's legal team blamed his rich background for leaving him unable to tell wrong from right.
Couch earned his nickname when a psychologist testified on his behalf, saying he suffered from "affluenza", which made him incapable of fully accepting responsibility.
Couch's affluenza defense worked, and he was given 10 years of probation, sparking public outrage.
