The company has even enlisted the help of e-commerce giant Alibaba to create an augmented reality experience within the Roastery.
"The affinity we have built with our partners (employees) and customers over the past 18 years in China is special and we knew we must bring the Reserve Roastery, our boldest, most premium store ever, to Shanghai, China's bustling metropolitan hub and one of the world's most dynamic retail destinations, as well as a gateway to customers from across Asia and the world", said Howard Schultz, executive chairman of Starbucks Coffee Company.
'I look forward to seeing Princi's success in Seattle further extend to our roastery in Shanghai'.
The 30,000 square-feet Starbucks Reserve Roastery on the famous West Nanjing Road shopping strip will open its doors on 6 December. Starbucks said that the shape was inspired by an espresso machine. The three wooden coffee bars, including one that is 88 ft. long - the longest at any Starbucks - were handcrafted by premiere Chinese artisans and reference the unique roasting curve of individual coffee beans.
'Rocco and his team's passion for handcrafted food and artisanal baked goods at Princi mirrors how I feel about our coffee, ' Mr Schultz said.
The bars allow customers to be up close and watch as their coffee is brewed. Starbucks now runs 3,000 stores in China, where it claims to be opening "a store every 15 hours".
Guests explore the new Starbucks Roastery in Shanghai
This Roastery has more than 100 beverages available for purchase, including Teavana tea infused with nitrogen and a new steam tea brewing technique. Shanghai location is Starbucks' biggest store to date, and also its most advanced digitally.
Like the location in Seattle, the Shanghai Roaster will feature menu items that can not be found at any other Starbucks location. The bar is made entirely out of 3-D printed recycled materials, the company said.
For those that visit Shanghai's Roastery, Starbucks has included an augmented reality experience.
Even though Chinese are traditionally tea guzzlers and less hooked on coffee than Americans, the country's growing ranks of upwardly mobile consumers still view Starbucks as an attractive, aspirational brand.
Powered by Alibaba's location-based technology, the Taobao app instantly recognizes when a thirsty patron arrives.
