The Italian supercar manufacturer says the first of its hybrid vehicles will be its new Sports Utility Vehicle, the URUS, unveiled on Monday and dubbed by the brand the world's first super-SUV.
Aston Martin, Rolls Royce and Ferrari are all either in the process of or considering joining the high-rev party, despite the reservations of purist fans of those famous brands.
Even if it is rather unusual to see a luxury brand like Lamborghini to launch an SUV, it must be remembered that it is not a first for the Italian manufacturer.
And all the while your stellar forward motion will be accompanied by the crackle from the thumping 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 delivering 650hp along the way and a horizon-reducing 850Nm of torque. Wow!
The Italian super-car maker says it wants to double its sales with the release of the vehicle, which can travel from 0-62 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds.
In comparison, Lamborghini's Huracan Performante, which comes with a V10 engine, goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of nearly 202 miles per hour.

Lamborghini is expected to release the 2019 Urus in the spring and will retail in the United States with a starting price of $200,000.
Surprisingly to most, though, the Urus is not the first Lamborghini SUV.
Between 1986 and 1993, Lamborghini built a 4×4 soberly baptized LM002. The Urus actually draws some inspiration from the LM002, including hexagonal wheel arches. Lamborghini is among the last automakers worldwide who has added an SUV or crossover to its portfolio of models.
Luxury SUV sales, meanwhile, have increased by nearly five times in the six years leading to 2016, IHS added.
"The Urus fits perfectly within the Lamborghini family as a high performance auto".
The SUV "allows you to travel on any terrain: on road, off road, on ice but also on sand dunes", said Lamborghini research and development director Maurizio Reggiani, suggesting it will be the fastest SUV on the market.
