UN Under Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman will arrive in North Korea on Tuesday to meet authorities of the Pyongyang regime, according to an official statement.
Feltman's visit will come a week after North Korea test-fired a new intercontinental ballistic missile apparently capable of striking the entire United States mainland.
Asked whether Feltman would meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Dujarric said that his current schedule included meetings with Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, Vice Minister Pak Myong Guk, diplomats and United Nations staff.
Mr. Feltman's visit to North Korea has added significance because he is expected to travel to China as well as Japan, which covers the three most important countries in the region that play a crucial role in this geopolitical crisis. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump had threatened more unilateral sanctions, but so far, no resolution from the UN Security Council has been forthcoming.

Stunning new super SUV - the Lamborghini Urus
Lamborghini is among the last automakers worldwide who has added an SUV or crossover to its portfolio of models. The Urus actually draws some inspiration from the LM002, including hexagonal wheel arches.
Asked whether Feltman would be preparing for a follow-on visit to Pyongyang by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the spokesman only said that Guterres has always been ready to undertake a "good offices" mission if necessary.
It may take a while to find out exactly what is being discussed during Jeffrey Feltman's visit this week.
The last United Nations undersecretary-general for political affairs to visit North Korea was B. Lynn Pascoe in February 2010.
Dujarric said Feltman was informally invited to visit North Korea during the annual gathering of world leaders at the General Assembly in September, presumably by foreign minister Ri who attended the session. The UN operates six agencies with 50 global staff in North Korea to provide food, agriculture and health aid to its malnourished population.
